photo slide show

this is for all those animal lovers out there: happy halloween!

i've never been a fan of dressing dogs in costumes (no matter how much we treat them like family), but i'm not ashamed to admit that these loved ones look pretty darn cute.

enjoy the pics from usa today.

choochy escapes

i love stories about wacky dogs...especially when the havoc they wreak doesn't involve me. i can enjoy from afar the way dogs play tricks on our days.

take into consideration, choochy -- who escaped from her kennel -- to run rampant for 17 hours at boston's logan airport:

Runaway poodle delays flights at Boston airport

BOSTON (AP) — Choochy the poodle is a "runway runaway."
Boston's Logan International Airport officials say Choochy escaped from her kennel as she was being unloaded after a flight from Detroit on Saturday night and scampered across runways and taxiways.

Airport spokesman Phil Orlandella says the poodle evaded airport personnel for more than 17 hours and delayed at least eight flights.

About 15 state police, firefighters, operations personnel and even electricians chased Choochy late into the night, delaying flights for up 30 minutes.

Orlandella says the poodle was frightened, tired and hungry when she was finally lured to safety with food early Sunday afternoon.

The dog was treated for minor injuries at an animal hospital and returned to her family.

old friends, new beginnings

today offered a blast from the past...as social networks finally shed light on long lost friends. what a great and inspirational feeling when you wake up from a dream and say -- where are they now -- only to click on facebook and find out!

time to catch up and discover where the last eight years have gone...how they've passed the time and when i'll see them again. so many memories. so many laughs. so many adventures have come and gone. now they will come and go again.

the chef jeff project

a true inspiration hit my tv tonight. and believe it or not, it was on the food network. chef jeff, a former drug dealer who spent years in jail, found his calling in the prison kitchen. opening up his own catering company -- urban cuisine -- he is bringing six at-risk young adults into the kitchen to change their lives and give them hope for the future.

the first show tonight was outstanding, inspirational and truly worthy of the watch. i can't imagine what it's like to have a record, to be a drug addict, to not be able to get a job...but i do know people who have chosen different paths and had to work their way back to even. these people have a long road ahead of them, but with chef jeff in the driver's seat, they're going to make it to culinary school.

i can't help while watching ponder the fact that one more person has found their passion, developed an idea and put it in play in an intriguing way...for this reason, the chef jeff project gives me hope. i see a man who has accomplished so much. i'd like to ask him how long it took him to come up with this idea, did it happen overnight, one day in the shower, because a friend came up with the idea, etc?

i try to imagine what it's like to not only do what you love but help people in the process. this is a situation that inspires....

truly an inspiration. congratulations chef jeff to a wonderful idea and a great delivery. i look forward to being inspired again next week. bon appetite...or should i simply say...good eating!

get involved

so...i love it when famous people use their popularity with the media to raise awareness about causes greater than themselves. natalie portman in a well written article (by donna freydkin) on usa today this week has done just that. the organization she represents finca international, a group that provides microloans to women in developing countries -- a group that inspires and empowers is always worthy of a mention.

check out the article and the organization.
